It is an indication of how high women’s economic empowerment has risen up the global agenda in recent years that conferences across the world are placing this issue front and centre. During the year 2016-17 the Foundation captured this momentum by undertaking 39 influencing opportunities to champion women’s entrepreneurship to thought leaders and policy-makers across the globe.

Highlights include:

  • March 2017: our Founder, Cherie Blair, delivered a keynote address at the Alwaleed Philanthropies Women’s Conference with the Thompson Reuters Foundation. In celebration of International Women’s Day, the event shed a light on the aspirations, achievements and potential of women in Saudi Arabia and beyond.
  • October 2017: the Global Citizen Forum in Montenegro, where Cherie spoke on women’s economic empowerment in relation to the theme of the Forum, ‘The Age of Uncertainty’.
  • We also championed the need for greater engagement from private sector leaders at a number of high level events, including the Salesforce Fortune CEO Series (London), the Skoll World Forum on Social Entrepreneurship (Oxford) and the Fortune + TIME Global Forum (Rome).

In recent months we’ve turned our focus on promoting the power of mentoring. In June, Cherie spoke about the work of our Mentoring Programme at the International Business Festival in Liverpool, first as part of a panel discussion about expanding trade opportunities for women business owners, and second during a conversation with Women of the World Festival founder, Jude Kelly. In the lead up to the event Cherie and Jude talked with the Telegraph about the importance of men joining the fight for women’s equality.

In July, we spent an evening with one of our Mentoring Programme’s corporate partners, Marsh and McLennan Companies. We were delighted to be joined by Nina Patil, a mentee from our Mentoring Women in Business Programme and founder of an Indian grape growing company, as well as two mentors from the programme, and Head of Corporate Social Responsibility at the company, Zara Jeffery. During a passionate, enlightening conversation, the panel discussed ways to support women trailblazers like Nina to thrive.
