Providing integrated business development support to women entrepreneurs in Lebanon
Following successful completion of the first phase of our project supporting women entrepreneurs in Nablus, we're teaming up with Tomorrow’s Youth Organization (TYO) again to bring the same programme to women in Lebanon. Together with the René Moawad Foundation, J.P. Morgan and TYO, we will equip entrepreneurial women with a combination of business development support, access to finance, mentoring opportunities and technology.
This support will enable them to transform their ideas and micro-businesses into commercially viable businesses offering employment to local craftswomen. Our approach is to develop and adapt existing skills to produce market competitive items that appeal to regional tastes.
Overcoming obstacles to becoming economic contributors
The need for this type of support is demonstrated by the low formal labour force participation of Lebanese women: estimated at only 24.8%. Although Lebanese women are often recognised as equal partners in the family, they are still under-represented in decision-making positions and in small and medium-sized companies.
Our project aims to increase the economic involvement and financial independence of women in Lebanon. It will help raise participants’ self-confidence, capability and capital. In setting up and expanding businesses, these talented women gain the confidence to make their own choices and generate income that will in turn benefit their families and communities.
