Providing business development support for young women entrepreneurs in Nablus
In partnership with Tomorrow’s Youth Organization (TYO), the Foundation supports women entrepreneurs in Nablus through a project which enables women to generate income based on their skills, education and motivation to work.
Crafts-women and university graduates joining forces
Crafts-women and university graduates are working together to develop sustainable businesses with the help of product development support, business training and networks provided by the project. We are currently running the first phase of the project and if successful it will be scaled up to include more women and a wider range of businesses.
University students who volunteer at TYO, like Aya who helps her family cultivate and sell the grapes from their yard, and Noor who produces beautiful embroidered goods, have a variety of marketable skills, however, they lack the business knowledge needed to convert these skills into sustainable income.
Through this project, Aya can enlarge her family’s grapevines and develop a more efficient distribution mechanism in order to generate enough profit to cover university tuition for herself and her sister. Noor can learn about global style and design trends, pricing and marketing, and receive support in distributing her goods in more economically viable markets than Nablus.
Working towards a better future for Nablus
Participation of women in the formal labour market is low in Palestine and income opportunities are minimal. The economic activity of the women involved in this project will have an immediate positive impact on the social well-being of their families and communities, given that on average women reinvest 90% of their income in their families. These young women are not only Nablus’s future community leaders, but also mothers of the city’s next generation. By facilitating their economic advancement, this project contributes to a healthier and more secure future for the women and children of Nablus.
